The growth and progress in his ministry can be attributed to his patience, as well as tutors, and mentors, Dr. Jim Holley, Pastor Curtis Grant, and also his father in law, Dr. Solomon Smith Sr. Pastor of New Hope Baptist Church these three men have poured into him and have laid a solid foundation.

In October of 2008 Pastor Douglas Butler received one of the most important phone calls of his life and that was, that he had been elected as the Senior Pastor of the Mayflower Missionary Baptist Church. A church where he is only the 5th Pastor in 79 years what a blessing and an honor!!

Pastor Butler's philosophy of ministry is governed by biblical principles and his giftedness in the areas of prophecy, preaching, and teaching. Pastor Butler is very active in the counseling ministry and  has several certifications  in the counseling profession. He is a experienced preacher and teacher possessing organizational and visionary qualities using well developed interpersonal skills to develop programs that build people.

Pastor Butler believes that one must utilize professional competence along with the power of the Holy Spirit to give wise and Godly advice while ministering the word of God. Essentially it is the ministry of bearing another's burden for a season until healing can take place.

Pastor Butler has become aware that many Christians today are deeply wounded in soul and Spirit due to their worldly past. Those re-birthed in Christ have the potential to make Godly changes in attitudes, which translates into Godly action and behavior. Scripture does not teach that we are completely sanctified at our spiritual birthing. It indicated that the Christian walk is a journey, a continuing process from immoral, or worldly, to Godly in moral character. The challenge of the church is to help the hurting and to set them on to a Godly path of recovery.

Pastor Butler firmly believes that ministry today must focus on helping men and women understand their wounded past and assist them along a road to a personal inner healing. This kind of empowering gives them mental and emotional stability. It enables them to live transparently vulnerable while living out their faith in truth.
